Differences between a virus, a trojan and a worm

Informatic virus

As I promised , in this post I would like to distinguish the differences between a computer virus, a Trojan and a worm . None of the three is good (we all agree), but neither are the same, nor do they damage our computer in the same way.
Why is it important to distinguish them? Very simple: because their behavior is different, they can come into our computer in various ways and do not have the same level of risk, even if all are malicious and may require computer repair. Let's see what they consist of:

What is a computer virus?

Although the term generically used for malware , a computer virus is a very specific code. This is a malicious software that when executed, is installed in RAM, makes replicas or copies of itself attached to our programs and then each time you execute a file, it can be deleted or become corrupted. They can also affect system files.
Trojan virusHow can a virus enter? Usually by downloading a software whose manufacturer is unknown, or using P2P networks . We need to protect the security of your computer with a good antivirus, a firewall and some standards of behavior.

What is a Trojan?

Like the virus, its name comes from a clear metaphor: the Trojan horse . We get down a seemingly normal program, but then it turns out to do a "double function" that we ignore. This program is the "back door" (known in English as backdoor ) that becomes our computer vulnerable to other attacks. It is not necessarily a destructive program itself, but if we have gotten is because they do not have good intentions.
There are many varieties, but the fundamental difference with the computer virus is that the Trojan does not self-replicate. That is, it performs specific actions to control the security of our computer. But the danger is greater: they are usually more difficult to detect, since they are apparently not a virus.

What is a computer worm?

We are not talking about biology, but a IWorm (an Internet worm). This is a type of malware whose main characteristic is that it replicates itself on your computer or computer network. Basic difference with viruses: you do not have to run any program to activate it. You can have it for months acting unconsciously, consuming RAM and spreading through your email accounts, social networking profiles, etc.
There are many kinds and varieties of viruses, Trojans and worms, and each can cause different effects . But I hope that with these basic definitions you have a clearer idea of what they are and how they work. If you do not use a good antivirus , now you might have any of these malware on your computer. Leave me a comment if you have ever entered a virus on your PC.
