Many people in business are convinced they know computer because they have used a computer. However, whenever they have a problem, they call the person on the phone because they do not clear up. Usually this group of people is in an age range of 45 to 65 years. They work every day with the computer and can be said to have become accustomed to using it. But many are still unaware and need help.
What happens in these cases? They are basic users, who learned the right thing to recycle and yes, they know how to work with a computer. But they are still dependent users, have not lost "the fear of touching a button and break something" . Knowledge at the basic user level is not always sufficient. Handling problems well when a crisis occurs or following a series of good practices is fundamental to working in our company.
One thing is be a basic user and other a power user . Fortunately, the most and least in Spanish companies can read and respond to an email or handle the Office package at a basic level. However, it is necessary to go one step further.

From basic user to advanced user

Something very important today in SMEs is to have enough computer knowledge to work . It is not about turning overnight into a technical expert capable of fixing hardware, or anything like that. Simply, know basic fundamentals that will help us to work better and faster.
For example, some of the elements that every employee in an SME should know the following:
  • Online security: how to use the Internet safely, what to download and what not to lose, how we should react to the emergence of a virus on your computer, how to create secure passwords, open and set up blogs, etc. Internet goes far beyond knowing how to open Internet Explorer.
  • Search engines and social networks: a fundamental tool in the company is the online documentation. Do we know how to use Google to its full potential? Do we know how to do advanced searches? Do we know anything about SEO? Do we know how to manage the social networks of the company properly? Unfortunately, some basic users are left behind and important information is lost.
  • Fundamentals of e - commerce: important for businesses today, as many customers will come through its online store. Do we know how to handle orders correctly? Are we able to maintain a Prestashop page? Do we know anything about HTML to fix design details?
  • Using software: no need to always hire an employee who already operate a particular software. We can train the employees we already have. Many already know how to use programs such as Word or Excel, but if the company has a need, it is advisable to teach other software, such as Photoshop, Access, video editing programs and others.
  • Windows Basics: thinking particularly of the most inexperienced, it is essential to have a general knowledge of what is what and how we can find it What is a hard drive, how to plug peripherals, how to fix a driver problem, etc.
In short, the company need to have some basic computer skills , whether they then have a maintenance company, a way to save money is with computer training.
