What to do if you get a link with malware by Twitter?

Malicious program

You have probably already seen on more than one occasion with a direct message on Twitter in which they say "Some person is posting really bad rumors about you" . Next to the insidious mess you see a link in which you are supposed to access the information so disturbing news.
When you press that button, what happens is that it takes us a page where we automatically install a malicious application, which in turn will use our Twitter to send direct messages to all our contacts with the same message. Result? That malware spreads throughout our network , unless we are ready and adopt practices that will point out here.

What to do when they send you malware by Twitter

First of all I have to tell you that this topic is important. First, because input not know what type of malicious software you can install by pressing on the link, or what might happen with your Twitter account. And secondly, because it deeply damages the image of your business.
If it is a company account, the more important you should take the following precautions.
1. Do not open the links. Even if you are sent by a known person, you may have also been a victim of malicious software. It analyzes if it is an automatic message: they usually come in English and the content is about something morbid.
2. If you have done so, revoke access to unwanted applications. In the case that you have opened the link, go to the "configuration" button and, in the menu on the left, click on "applications". You will be given a list with all installed applications; Revokes access to unknown applications so they lose permissions and can not do anything.
3. If necessary, change the Twitter password. In some cases, it is possible that the application will be resisted and will not work. What you can do then is change the password. ATTENTION: This can affect configured applications, and you would have to allow access again, making the password change the most drastic option to fix the problem.
4. Notify the malware victim. If the message has reached you through a specific account, for example a follower that you know well, tell him by direct message that he knows he has malware and that he should revoke access to this application.
5. Find out who sent you the message. He may be a follower of yours whom you know, so probably he too has passed and has not done so intentionally. But if the message comes directly from a stranger, who also has very few followers, a newly created account, with rare characters in the name, distrusts.
6. Block and report malware. If the account that sent you the malware looks like the author of the software itself, then block and report this account to Twitter. Log in and report it as spam. Here you explain how.
Of course, it is always advisable to make a backup of Twitter and your computer is well protected with an antivirus. Have you ever received a direct message with a malicious link? What steps did you follow? Tell us your experience in the comments.
