5 myths about computer security of your files

Today I would like to debunk some myths briefly running around the security of files on the Internet . We have already commented on some occasions, but is that there are a number of unsafe practices that should not be of receipt in a company.
Back up online

I'm not saying that, for reasons of cost savings, sometimes using some of these alternatives to an online backup service . But an SME working with hundreds of clients a year, and even more so if the new technologies sector should be a little more careful in how to save and protect files projects and documents with which to work.

1. I use a USB stick to save files.

False. You'll be amazed how many times the USB memories are lost, they spoiled or, which is more typical, among them a virus. Apart from the availability of space they offer you is very scarce (you would have to accumulate USB memories over time), is more frequent than you think they are spoiled, let's not talk about CD or DVD. It is a myth of computer security that doing this are actually protecting your files.

2. It is better to use free cloud backup services

BackupsAnother myth about computer security that must be torn down. Sometimes we think we do not need to hire an online backup service because there are already many free that we provide great space. Well, here the problem comes when the space is finished (something very easy if you work with video or images of high dimensions). In Dropbox almost certainly will not take anything, but even if you work with Mediafire (50GB free) at some point have to planteártelo. What do we do then, look for another free system, or expand paying?
Before making that decision, you should ask if the storage service in the cloud that you use meets the requirements of the Organic Law on Data Protection (LOPD), because if it is not, and upload customer information, you can get to see you in A serious setback for responsibility.

3. No one is going to take the trouble to steal my files

Another of the myths about computer security is to think that we are irrelevant. There are companies that completely forget the security of storage systems. But the space in GB they offer us is not everything. If you have a security breach , all the important information that you store can reach the eyes of another person whose intentions unknown.
A company that wants to work seriously, should worry about protecting the privacy of its customers, not only because it is its client, but to comply with the Organic Law of Data Protection (LOPD).

4. I do not need to make automatic backups

Some people think that just doing a backup manually every day and that fixes the problem. Suppose you have been working all day on a client's project and at 8:00 PM, when you are about to deliver, you will damage your computer.
It is not common to have such bad luck, but a company that does quality work should offer its customers the maximum guarantees, even against unforeseen circumstances. The backups per hour or per minute are more appropriate and better than made automatically to save time.

5. If I have a problem, I do a Windows restore

Security filesWe were talking the other day that a way to recover lost files is through a system image . The problem with this is that you will go back to the previous point where you made that image of the system. What you have done in between you lose, and even a matter of days, you can lose something important. This is only a partial solution.
I hope I have clarified some things a company should know when to care for and protect the security of your files . Did you know these myths about the computer security of your files? If you found this article interesting, please, I would like to read your comments.
