Sometimes only
concerned about the state that is our hardware and everything depends on the physical device. As it starts to fail the processor, or the power supply begins to break down, or if the fans are not going as they should, we believe that we need a computer , as managing physical devices may seem complicated and could spoil if we are not careful.
However, it seems that with the software there is sometimes more peace of mind between users of the medium or basic type, since they seem to think that once they know how to handle it, there should be no further changes. We talk about problems with the operating system, web browsers, installed programs and different types of software . However, we must never rely on anything related to the software if you want to optimize your computer to fit our desires.
In this article I comment on some of the software maintenance tasks that we should implement in our computer equipment, both in your office and at home.
Types of Software Maintenance: What They Are
The easiest thing is to think that if the operating system of the computers starts well, there should be no problems. Or everything is to check from time to time that nothing has been installed in browsers, nor any malware program. However, computer maintenance tasks are not limited only to ensure that the OS function properly and check that you have installed the updates to reduce their vulnerability.
We have to take care that the specific programs that a company uses , especially if it has been created ad hoc for the company, fulfill the objectives that promise. After satisfied phases of implementation and verification, next on software development will take different measures to check their performance and possible improvements.
- Preventive maintenance: check the software to avoid potential problems (safety, operability, etc.) which may arise in the future.
- Predictive maintenance will help us to know when it will produce a failure or congestion, affecting their daily work in the company.
- Corrective maintenance consists of reviewing and correcting problems of security, stability, code errors, lack of performance because of hardware, etc.
- Adaptive maintenance: suppose that will change the (Windows to iOS) operating system, or type of hardware (PC had a Mac), will continue to function optimally use the application?
- Perfective maintenance: when we are preparing a software, users may need to have new features that enable them to authorize tasks. Maybe the user is not aware of this, but a good software developer can realize.
Do you dedicate time and resources to software maintenance? Are you aware of whether the programs you started using a few years ago are still useful to you?
